Unique Philippine coffee, in a cozy small shop, with a really friendly owner. A must try, if you consider yourself a coffee lover, and you want to try something special!
They say that the flavour of the coffee brewed from the Barako beans available here does not collapse when it gets cold, and best yet a pleasant, sweet flavour replaces any sourness when chilled.
Exceptional imported coffee brewed with popular methods (espresso, pourover) and some you won't find at other coffee shops (syphon, cloth-filtered). One of the best in the neighborhood and the city.

The speciality of Barako is that - as opposed to arabica coffees - its flavour doesn't collapse upon cooling - when cold, its sour taste is replaced by a pleasant sweet side taste.
Special barako coffee, filtered in a syphon. Crystal clear. Try it with ice.

A filippino tulajdonos a saját kávéültetvényéről hozatja a névadó Liberica Barako kávéfajtát, mely nedves eljárással kerül feldolgozásra. Kihagyhatatlan.

Ha erre járok, nem hagyom ki! Nagyon kicsi, de hangulatos hely. Itt biztos lehetsz abban, hogy a tulajdonos a szívét is belefőzi a kávéba.

Kiváló minőségű, valódi kávékülönlegességek. Véletlenül tévedtünk arra a nagy felújítások közepette, de mostanra törzshelyünk lett. Kókuszos latte-t különösen ajánlom.

If you've never been to Barako, I give you 3 reasons why you should definitely check them out, as they are truly a treasure of Budapest:
1. Their flagship coffee bean, 'barako', is a game changer. Once I tried it (which was quite a few years ago), I was hooked immediately, it instantly became my favourite, and by a distance... which sadly means that "usual" coffee has become a bit of a bore. If you like truly great coffee and have yet to try it, it's an absolute must!
2. They recently started serving food as well, so I thought I'd give it a try, and ordered their 'Cebu lechon' for the entire family........ this was weeks ago, but I still day-dream about that meal. Absolutely sensational! I've eaten my fair share of pork in my 39 years, and we definitely know a thing or two about cooking pork in Hungary, but this may have been the best I've ever had, and my wife and 4 sons were also ecstatic. If you enjoy meat and all-around rich flavours, this will blow your mind!
3. Last, but by no means least: the couple running the place (Luelyn and Ryan) are genuinely the nicest people you'll meet, it's great to run into these guys at the shop and chat for a bit while enjoying a coffee or something sweet or whatever. If you care about the actual people behind a business you support, there's no business I know of more deserving of your attention.
To sum it up: Barako makes Budapest better! Cheers!

I had an amazing Flak Jacket, what I had no clue what is but it helped me to survive the day :) Thank you very much!

Barako is a place where you get the best quality coffee from real coffee enthusiasts at a a cozy place. The place tends to attract a very valuable mix of interesting people and quite often, you find yourself engaged in conversations with strangers.
Go, check it out, you will be happy you did :)

If you feel like you're not getting along with your morning, just go for a FlapJacket Bulletproof coffee and it will make it up to you ;) Also deserves a chat with the owner!

The coffee shop is in Buda side, the building is a bit difficult to find/see, the place is also small inside (maybe enough space for maximum 8-10 people?), but it felt very cozy. I was the only customer there when I came in and as a fellow filipino, the owner and I had a little chat which lasted maybe for an hour or something (and his friend/customer came in and talked with us too). I ordered their special brew (i think it's called nitro, if i remember it right), and their ube cheesecake. Everything was really good! And I really like that their coffee beans come from Philippines, that's what makes this coffee shop unique.

Firstly, the coffee was awesome! I have never ever tasted anything like this. Love at first taste.
The owner is fluent in English, and I think he speaks fairly well in Hungarian too - maybe he is a bit shy when it comes to speak Hungarian, but I can't blame him :)
Go, have a cuppa, I'm sure you'll love it.

Barako is an exotic Philippine coffee treasure box on the Buda side quite close to river Danube. It is a small and cosy place, offering great variety of coffee specialties you've never heard of. Have you tried Brainfreezer or iced dripped coffee before? But if you stick with your home "bathrobe" favorite, Ryan will create for you according to your request. + They serve the best blueberry cheesecake in town. Hurry up before it is gone – or before I get there hehe.

Well, contrary to the last reviewer, I do think Barako serves the best coffee in town. Sure, it is not for food, hence no breakfast, but I don't think the place ever claimed that it has more than coffee and tea. Barako is a cosy little place where you go for the best coffee and for the relaxed, welcoming and international atmosphere. If you are a coffee hypster or you are looking for design inspiration, the place is not for you. If you are looking for coffee, conversations, ad hoc jamming sessions of the owner and the guests, make sure you drop by while in Budapest.

Best and strongest coffee in town - wakes up the dead, even! If you want a quick fix that inevitably turns into a longer fix, check out Barako - yes, the place is small but this is a shelter that you will put on your checklist once you're in town. If you are a caffeine afficionado, this is a must!

It is a must! Not one must, but many. During your stay in Budapest you must go there, you must talk to the owner and ask for his recommendation, you must watch him preparing your coffee and you must drink it. I had Mud Honey. No mud, no honey there, only pure magic. The visit was more relaxing than Thai massage, also because the owner, who is not Hungarian, actually speaks English.

Amazing barako coffee from the Philippines. Words cannot describe how mind-blowing this coffee is. My recent favorite there is flak jacket (coffee with coconut oil) which literally makes your heart sing - in a good way.
Talk to Ryan, the owner, barista and coffee expert, he is the friendliest coffee aficionado I've ever met. His personality and enthusiasm makes the already great experience even better.
Tiny place that serves the best coffee in the city.

This is the place if you are looking for truelly good coffee with truelly great crowd. A small and super friendly place, where cultures, languages and ides coexist, in a down to earth atmosphere. Ryan, the owner and the barista from the Philippines, and he knows his craft effortlesly.

We came to this cafe with my sister by accident, not knowing the area. Loved everything about the place! A big selection, good coffee, super friendly stuff :)
